Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside the Pou Ārahi team at Whangārei Girls' High School, providing comprehensive event management support and expert logistical advice. This collaboration has allowed me to contribute to the planning and delivery of key school events, ensuring they are not only well-organised and impactful, but also executed within the constraints of a modest budget.
One of the key challenges we faced was transforming the school auditorium—normally seating a maximum of 700 people in traditional row, into a welcoming, banquet-style layout with tables to accommodate over 600 students and their whānau. This required creative spatial planning, efficient use of resources, and precise coordination to ensure everyone had a seat and a clear view of the stage, without compromising safety or comfort.
Drawing on my technical background and deep-rooted connections within the Whangārei creative and events communities, I’ve been able to secure high-quality services and resources at significantly reduced rates. My strong relationships with local suppliers, venues, and professionals have played a vital role in elevating the standard of these events, without compromising financial sustainability. By aligning creative problem-solving with strategic negotiation, I’ve helped WGHS deliver memorable experiences that celebrate their values and achievements on time, on budget, and with excellence.
